Visiting the National Library of El Salvador is worth it if you’re in San Salvador, but I wouldn’t visit the capital just to see it.

• The modern library, which opened in 2023 and was gifted to the country by China, stands in contrast to the surrounding historic center. It’s a great place to get a high view of the center. You can also play video games on big, modern TV screens if you read a book for at least 30 minutes.
• You can visit the national library for free.
• No preparation is required. The library is open to the public 24/7.
